What: Garfield Community Center – Garden Fence Project

The work involves:

Dig footings for Place 14 fenceposts
Place posts and pour concrete to secure
Build and stain lattice and other fence components

What to bring:

Sturdy shoes/boots
Clothes you don’t mind getting dirty
Work gloves and Rain jacket

The work involved:

Weeding the garden and removing dead plants
Spreading topsoil around various spots of the garden
Building a simple planter box
Spreading woodchips across the garden space

Eagle Scout Service Project – Annika

Date: March 16
Time: 9 am-12 pm and 1 pm-4 pm

Location: Junction of E. Edgar St. and Boyer Ave E., otherwise known on Google Maps as Astrid’s Park, E. Edgar St Shoreline Street End. The Shoreline Street End is just West of Queen City Yacht Club, and we have permission to park in their parking lot.

Project: The work entails clearing English Ivy and blackberry bushes off a retaining rock wall and the bases of mature trees. Once we have completed that, we will move to the landscaped portion of the street end and will weed the beds and clear any invasive plant species before mulching it over to protect against the reinvasion of invasive plants and to help retain ground moisture.

We will be clearing English Ivy and blackberry bushes, and below is the landscaped area where we will be weeding and mulching.

Shooting Sports Day

When: January 6, 2024 – 8AM – 3PM
Where: Camp Pigott
This training covers all the aspects needed for NRA Basic Rifle Training and the Boy Scout Shooting Merit Badge in Rifle. All books, ammunition, targets, firearms, range fees, cleaning equipment, hearing protection, and eye protection are provided for the class.

Eagle Scout Service Project – Dawson H.

What: We will be building boat slings at Mount Baker Rowing and Sailing Center. These slings will enable bigger boats to be more easily transported. Then we will be painting said slings. Any and all help is appreciated.

You are invited to take a peek at the inside operations of Alaska Airlines.? On Saturday, May 7th, you can join us for a free event aimed at inspiring aviation dreams.? This event will? provide the opportunity for young adults to learn about different paths in the aviation industry and education possibilities for a successful career.

Food Lifeline Volunteer Event

This is an eye-opening lesson on food insecurity in our region and a greatservice opportunity. Food lifeline is the main distributor to food banks in the region, receiving massive amounts of food (often straight from the farm) to be sorted, repackaged, and trucked to food banks around town. The work you do during the shift will directly impact hungry people in our region the following week. Who knows what our group’s task will be — in past years we have shoveled frozen green beans from a crate into 1-lb bags suitable for a hungry family, sorted pears, and repackaged 50 lb sacks of brownie mix into the amount a family would use for one pan of brownies. Operating a pallet jack, working off a conveyor belt, and wearing headnets may be part of the fun!

Emergency Hub Awareness Outreach

Drive awareness of the new Emergency Hub for the Mount Baker neighborhood. Scoutmaster Kat will set up a Hub tent and hand out information to neighbors.
Assist with the booth and talk to neighbors about the Hub. For those of you who participated in the Emergency Prep drill last fall, this is a great opportunity to talk about what you learned and educate neighbors. For those of you who didn’t attend the drill, it’s a great opportunity to learn about the Emergency Hub and how neighbors help neighbors in the event of an earthquake or other natural disaster.

Squak Mountain Day Hike

We will meet at the Issaquah Trail Center parking lot and start out for 5 miles of hiking. This is an outdoor activity for Second Class 1(a); we can talk about Leave No Trace for 1(b); bring a compass and we can take the five-mile hike for 3(b); and we can look for animals for 4 and plants for First Class 5(a)., identifying native plants and animals

Emergency Preparedness MB Requirement 7: Emergency Drill?Workshop

Scenario: There has been a minor earthquake. Troop 15/8015 has been mobilized to assist the local Neighborhood Hub? in Mount Baker to assess and report on the damage, and help the community get the help they need. They will role play roles at the Neighborhood Hub as close to the real life scenarios as possible.

Please bring your “personal mobilization” day pack:a backpack with the 10 essentials and a first aid kit.

Don?t forget the Scout Book! Please have your scout update their hiking, camping, leadership and service hours in the back of the Scout Book!
